Hi there !

If you've been reading through this blog systematically by now you will have surely realised so far that there is so much more to design than you imagined !

Today we're going to look at some of the examples of interior designers....this can help you decide and understand what type of designer ( or combination of designers ) that you tend to be.

Read on......

1. RESIDENTIAL DESIGNER
As the name suggests, these are interior designers and decorators who specialize in homes.Residential designers are trained to interview clients, to help them explore in depth their needs and tutor them as to possible future requirements that will improve their home lifestyle.

2. ENTERTAINMENT DESIGNER
Designing entertainment development differs from the design of more conventional buildings and settings.

Theme parks like Disney World in Orlando are examples of buildings that an entertainment designer lends their expertise too. For design professionals involved in entertainment development, the "acid test" is to be involved in the front end, working hand-in-hand with creative directors and their concept teams.

3. FACILITY DESIGNER
A facilities designer is like a juggler - he/she is required to keep a running list of 40 to 60 requests that range from something as minor as changing out the towels in the executive area to working on space allocation to departments to undertaking major building renovations.

CADD experience, space planning, working in teams, quick decision making skills and an overall appreciation and understanding of the facility in question are required of this type of designer.

4. INSTITUTIONAL DESIGNER
Institutional interior design involves the programming, planning, design, and management of space used by public and private organizations e.g. schools, government offices, R&D facilities, transport facilities e.g airports etc.

5. HEALTH CARE DESIGNER
Research shows that interior design impacts human behavior in the built environment. Design for the health care market impacts the well-being of not only patients and their families but also of the care provider, therefore, the quality of care.

These type of designers have a crucial role to play in providing patients with an environment that will both optimize their treatment and spur their recovery.

6. HOSPITALITY DESIGNER
Hospitality design includes such projects as hotels, resorts, restaurants, country or golf clubs, athletic and city clubs, as well as casinos and cruise ships. For an interior designer in this specialty, it is important to understand the client's business, including operational procedures, image and use requirements as well as budget and financial constraints.

7. OFFICE DESIGNER
Office design, by its very nature, cannot be neatly categorized or defined, for just as there are an almost endless number of workplace types, so must their design reflect this variety. People's offices can be found in traditional office buildings, in their homes, at a hospital nurses' station or even an airplane cockpit.

An office designer will use tools such as blocking, stacking and bubble diagrams to begin to define the space, or in some cases to determine if the space is even feasible in the first place!

8. RETAIL DESIGNER
Retail design is a somewhat narrow term to describe a very wide and intriguing practice area of interior design.

Retail design encompasses the design of specialty stores, medium and large footprint retail businesses, department stores, factory-outlet stores, discount retailing, retail malls and shopping centers, service businesses both large and small-virtually any commercial enterprise engaged in hands-on customer commerce.

These are the main types of designers that come to mind but there are numerous others that you can research on some of which are Bathroom designers, Exhibit designers, Feng shui designers, Green Designers, Hotel Designers, Japanese and Asian designers, Kitchen Designers, Set Designers, Zen Designers etc.....you get the picture.

Whether you find one interior design style that fits you perfectly, or you want to switch things up now and then, an interior design career gives you many options !

Have a productive week ahead !
