# TIP 10: BALANCING AN EDUCATION AND YOUR PASSION

One question I keep getting asked time and again is ‘What is the difference between interior design and interior decoration?’

I’ve noticed some people use the terms interchangeably and worse still, in a professional setting. The reality of the matter is that the 2 terms are as different as night and day.

In short: interior design involves much more than the basic DESIGN elements of space management and requires formal education whereas interior decoration focuses purely on the DESIGN basics and requires little to no formal education.

That’s why I began ELLE COLLEGE OF DESIGN and further, an on-line portal for virtual learning on the same.

With a group of Elle College Alumni !
We all start off as interior decorators driven by passion and an innate instinct to beautify spaces but at some point if we intend on expanding our market and approach, we need to be formally educated in interior design….because beyond design there are elements of health, safety, security, functionality, legality and compliance just to mention a few and these must be learnt.
